About the Event

Fair Isle is a traditional knitting technique used to create patterns with multiple colors. Although any number of colors may be used, traditionally there are no more than 2 in each row.

This 4-session class will introduce you to knitting Fair Isle style. Knitters will knit a simple hat pattern in the round, while learning to read a chart and do stranded knitting. The pattern to be used is the Laurelhurst Fair Isle hat, a free pattern on It uses a background color and one contrasting color, which could be a multicolored or variegated yarn if you like.

Knitters must know how to knit and purl. It would help to have a least a little experience knitting in the round. Anyone who would like assistance in selecting materials and tools for this project can contact Robin at

Materials: 2 skeins of worsted weight wool, in contrasting colors. Wool or wool-blend yarn works best. Novelty yarns will not work well for this pattern.
